Abstract: | Procuring understandable systems that improve human effectiveness and reduce (or at least maintain) overall risk has become even more complex when considering the acquisition of artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Current acquisition guidance provides a strong foundation but is not sufficient to identify and effectively assess emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence. These systems can provide value and be exceedingly helpful in the right situation. This paper provides actionable guidance to Navy acquisition teams so that they can quickly and effectively identify and procure the best AI systems and reduce risks associated with these major investments. |
