Abstract: The purpose of this analysis is to discuss the importance of linkages between US and European defense manufacturers with the emergence of the common global threat of terrorism, the greater price sensitivity of governments concerning weapons systems costs, and the shrinkage of defense budgets. The article discusses the reasons behind the formation of alliances between US and European defense contractors, examines several case studies of alliances, assesses some of the patterns in alliance formation, and analyzes the potential for trans-Atlantic alliances between defense contractors in the future.
