Abstract: This report, submitted in accordance with section 845 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016, examines the strategic planning of the Department of Defense (DOD) regarding the acquisition workforce (AWF). It provides an examination and analysis of DOD's efforts to recruit, develop, and retain the AWF, with a focus on how these efforts support the implementation of the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA), the application of the DOD Acquisition Workforce Development Fund (DAWDF), and the effectiveness of professional military education and fellowship programs.
