Abstract: One of the main purposes of the Post 9/11 GI Bill transfer provision was to increase retention. This benefit was to be used to complement other retention tools to increase reenlistment and obligation numbers in the military. The transfer provision is a significant generous benefit that can be worth more than $100,000 per recipient. If retention rates increase from the provision is negligible then the provision essentially is inefficient and ineffective on retention. This research will analyze the quantity and quality of the increase in retention rates due to the Post 9/11 GI bill transfer provision.
